According to Vietnamese telecom VNPT, the country’s internet service is back to normal speeds.
The company said that the service interruption was the result of a short circuit on the Asia-America Gateway, rather than a cable rupture as originally thought, reports Thanh Nien.
Repairs were made in record time as it normally takes weeks to mend breaks along the cable. The last disruption that occurred in January took 20 days to fix.
Since the US$560 million, 20,000km cable went into operation in 2011, it has broken in at least 7 instances, each time on the section that connects Vietnam and Hong Kong.
