Lychee season has officially arrived, bringing droves of farmers and buyers to Northern Vietnam.
Once reserved for the country's royal family, Vietnamese lychee is now a popular product for both the domestic and international markets.
Endless streams of lychee sellers, each carrying about 200 kilograms of their goods, gather every morning in Luc Ngan, Bac Giang Province, the center of lychee production in the country, reports Zing.
This time of year, normally empty Highway 31 becomes abuzz with activity, resulting in major traffic jams.
The wholesale price starts at VND18,000 per kilo but drops as it gets later in the day. Once sold to distributors, the fruits are washed and boxed before being shipped off.
“The season is very busy and exhausting, but it is the only time in the year to earn a little extra money,” said a porter, adding that he can make up to VND300,000 per day during the lychee harvest.
