Attention, airline passengers: beginning later this year, the inflight security officer on your plane will be packing.
In accordance with a new regulation issued last week, security personnel on board Vietnam's aircrafts will be armed with “appropriate weapons and support tools for use when necessary”, reports Tuoi Tre.
This new procedure will take effect on December 27, 2015. Security officers,w ho are under the command of the plane's pilot, will be permitted to use appropriate force against passengers who are attempting to cause an interference on the plane or compromising the safety of those on board.
Following any such incident, airline carriers are required by law to report the disturbance to airport authorities immediately.
Along with providing weapons to inflight security officers, disruptive or abusive passengers will also be eligible to receive a lifetime flying ban for their behavior. Lesser flying bans of three to 12 months may also be enforced for smaller offenses, including minor disturbances, non-compliance with aviation officials, verbal bomb threats and false paperwork.
