[Video] Inferno Tears Through District 1 Neighborhood

A number of buildings in the heart of District 1 were destroyed on Tuesday in a massive blaze.

The fire broke out at about 3pm and quickly spread to adjacent structures. Hundreds of firefighters and more than 25 fire trucks battled the fire that took over two hours to extinguish, reports Vietnam News.

Local officials said that they had arranged housing and an initial VND30 million in compensation for those who lost their homes in the fire.

While the city has yet to confirm if there were any injuries, it said that damages are estimated at over US$1 million.

Saigon BBQ hotspot, Quan Ut Ut was spared from the blaze, according to the eatery’s Facebook page:
