Vietnam Television is moving ahead with its plan to build the world's tallest broadcast tower in Hanoi, and it's not going to be cheap.
The public broadcaster and its partners – sovereign fund SCIC and golf course developer BRG Group – have assessed the cost of building the world's tallest broadcasting tower in the capital, reports Thanh Nien. The project is expected to cost US$900 million and stand at 636 meters tall, making it just taller than the current record holder, Tokyo's 634-meter-tall Skytree.
The partners are currently in talks with several local banks regarding the financing of the project, as well as seeking tax breaks and additional support for the endeavor. If the project comes to fruition, an additional US$400-500 million would also go to hotels, apartments and office buildings in the tower's surrounding area, functioning as part of a new city center west of Hanoi's current downtown area.
Vietnam Television is currently selling its stakes in cable providers like VTVcab, SCTV and K+ to fund the effort.
