We all color outside the lines every now and again. On an especially busy day, you might zip through a red light or charge into oncoming traffic to shave a few seconds off your morning commute. Time, after all, is money.
Except, of course, in the rare cases when saving time costs you money. Like, for example, when you drive in the wrong direction for 20 kilometers down a major national roadway in order to “save distance”.
According to VnExpress, this is exactly what happened to Phu Tho native Pham Van Tien, who was caught on camera speeding down the Noi Bai – Lao Cai Highway at the wheel of a 50-seater bus between his hometown and nearby Vinh Phuc.
After viewing civilian footage of the incident, the authorities responsible for monitoring this section of highway, known as Police Team 1, cordially “invited” Tien to the police station to explain his behavior.
The driver confessed to driving his bus for 20 kilometers in the wrong direction, saying that he'd stopped the vehicle to let passengers off and later proceeded to travel in the opposite direction of traffic because it would “save tens of kilometers”.
Authorities fined Tien VND8.5 million and placed a two-month suspension on his license.
