Vietnamese consumers are among the most optimistic in the world, according to a new report by Nielsen.
The market research firm recently released its quarterly Consumer Confidence Index, which tracks the spending confidence of 63 nations across the globe. Overall, the report found Southeast Asian countries were mostly optimistic compared to the rest of the world, with Filipino consumers taking the top spot and their Indonesian counterparts coming in third, while India slipped down to the number two spot.
Vietnamese ranked seventh among the most optimistic consumers in the world, reports Thanh Nien, but took the top prize in another area: Vietnamese are the biggest savers in the world, with 76% putting their spare money into savings. Across Southeast Asia, 68% of consumers tend to stash their earnings. Again, Indonesia (70%) and Philippines (65%) were in the top three.
While these are positive findings for both Vietnamese consumers and the local economy, Nielsen also noted that common concerns for the country’s consumers included health, job security and economic instability.
