Vietnamese shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh earned his second medal of the Rio Olympics yesterday in the men’s 50-meter pistol event.
After last weekend’s win in the men’s 10-meter air pistol event, Vinh had already achieved ample praise as well as a place in the history books for Vietnam’s first-ever Olympic gold.
On Wednesday, however, the shooter continued his success with a silver medal in the 50-meter competition, reports VnExpress.
The gold went to South Korean shooter Jin Jongoh, who set an Olympic record with 193.7 points. Vinh was close behind with 191.3 points, while North Korean shooter Kim Song Guk came in third with a score of 172.8.
Vinh has made headlines this week not only for his Olympic victory but also for the news that he and his teammates typically train without ammunition. In the lead-up to Rio, the near-sighted shooter and his Olympic teammates were given only 100 rounds of ammunition per day for training.
