Vietnam’s internet will continue to operate at a snail's pace for three days longer than expected.
Repairs to the Asia America Gateway (AAG) cable, damaged during Typhoon Nida earlier this month, will be completed on August 24, instead of August 21 as originally planned, reports Thanh Nien, citing the cable operator.
There are two ruptured sections, one located about 80km from Hong Kong, and the other 32km off the coast of Singapore. When working properly, the 22,000km-long cable can reach speeds of 2.88Tbits per second.
This is the third time the AAG cable has ruptured this year, following similar incidents in March and June. A shoddy internet connection seems to be the new normal, though Viettel and other local telecommunications firms are exploring the possibility of installing new undersea cables to bring better service to the country.
