Another week, another interesting law - a 2008 decision which proposed to ban drivers based on height, weight and chest size due to safety issues is gaining steam again.
According to VN Express, the decision states that in order to obtain a class A1 or B1 license, drivers must have a chest size over 72 cm, weigh more than 40 kg and have a height of at least 1.5 m (B1) and 1.45 m (A1).
For class C, D, E, F, and A2 licenses, drivers must be at least 1.6m in height and weigh over 47 kg with an average chest size 76-78 cm. In addition, there are 77 other criteria related to physiology and disease that will make some ineligible to drive vehicles.
The decision, issued by the Ministry of Health to increase safety on the roads, has faced some scrutiny over at the Ministry of Justice which is worried that too many standards may infringe on citizen’s constitutional rights.
Tran Quy Tuong, Deputy Director of Medical Services at the Ministry of Health, said that the details of the decision are not yet final and won’t be released to the press until 2014.
While there are a number of obstacles to overcome before this decision can actually enforced, at least Bà Tưng won’t have to worry one way or the other.
