With the news that some state officials are making outrageous salaries, the Vietnamese press has started to probe a bit deeper into exactly how much the country’s officials make.
At a recent press conference, a government spokesperson revealed how much Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, is pulling in each month.
According to deputy head of the Government Office’s general department, Nguyen Kinh Quoc, the salary coefficient of the Prime Minister is 12.5, his allowance coefficient is 3.13 and basic salary is VND1,150,000, plus state bonuses:
“Mr. Quoc then confirmed that that the Prime Minister’s total salary, including state allowances and bonuses, is roughly VND17 million (US$805) a month (after paying social insurance and health insurance premiums).”
Questions about the Prime Minister’s salary arose in the wake of reports that a number of directors of state-owned companies raked in up to VND2.6 billion last year.
They have maintained that their salaries are in-line with the profits of their companies but pledged to return the difference to the state fund.
