The first performances of the 2017 Da Nang International Fireworks Festival erupted over the city's Han River last Sunday.

VnExpress reports that the festival, first held in 2008, drew crowds to the central city's riverside to watch shows put on by Vietnamese and Austrian teams. A stand featuring 22,000 seats was set up along the river for the festival, giving attendees a front-view of the fireworks displays.

According to the news source each performance lasts for 15 minutes, and this year local officials have allowed cruise ships to sail down the Han during the shows, as long as they maintain a safe distance.

Further shows are scheduled for May 20 and 27, as well as June 6, featuring teams from Sweden, Japan, China, the UK and Italy. The final round and closing ceremony will be held on June 24.
