Coach Park Hang-Seo Extends Contract With Vietnam Football Federation

Good news for Vietnamese football fans!

The Vietnam Football Federation recently announced that they have renewed their contract with Park Hang-seo, the South Korean head coach of Vietnam’s men's national football team and U-23 team, Tuoi Tre reports.

The beloved coach’s current contract is due to expire in January 2020. Under the new deal, Hang-seo will stay with the national team for three more years, starting from February next year. A press conference and official signing ceremony will be held on November 7 in Hanoi.

Since coming on board in late 2017, the South Korean coach has led the national team to new highs, most notably the team’s unbelievable performance at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-23 Championship 2018, which saw them unexpectedly finish as the runner-up in the tournament. Since then, both the U-23 team and the senior national team have achieved great results under the coach’s guidance.

"As we've made progress over the past two years, a strong system is taking root, and I felt there was more work left for me to do," Hang-seo said in a statement released by his management agency. "I've had such tremendous support from fans in Vietnam, and I decided the best way to return that love is to build an even stronger team."

Before the extended contract was finalized, the federation had said that they were struggling to find the finances to extend the coach's stay, which was met with offers from private enterprises saying they were willing to help. Yonhap News shares that the contract is reportedly the biggest in history for a national football head coach in Vietnam, though the exact figure is undisclosed.
