Hau, who is playing full-time for Hanoi FC, is going to the Netherlands on a one-year loan contract.
The 20-year-old player of Vietnam’s national football team will be playing for SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie, the Netherlands’ highest-ranked football league, Tuoi Tre reports.
SC Heerenveen is currently among the country’s top-10 football clubs and used to be the home of football icon Ruud van Nistelrooy and other famous players, including Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Jerry de Jong and Michael Bradley. During his time at SC Heerenveen, Hau will play as a defender with a monthly salary of US$22,000. Teams participating in the Eredivisie include the country's "big three": Ajax Amsterdam, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.
“I feel lucky to be here. I consider this a step forward in my career. I’ll train hard and learn from my teammates. I’ll listen to the coaches and contribute my best to the club,” said Hau during a press conference at Heerenveen on September 2. After the signing ceremony, Hau flew back to Vietnam to train with the national team in preparation for a match against Thailand for the qualification round of the 2022 World Cup.
“We have been observing him for a long period of time and have been in talks directly with Van Hau. His talents convinced us, which is why we have negotiated a transfer contract so that he can stay here longer,” said Gerry Hamstra, director and technical manager of SC Heerenveen.
