Vietnam Is Asia's Fastest-Growing Travel Destination in 2017 So Far: UN Report

A recent study by the United Nations shows that during the first four months of 2017, Vietnam was the fast growing travel destination in Asia.

The study, called the World Tourism Barometer, was conducted by the United Nations’ World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). It looks into tourism patterns all over the world as well as in separate regions.

According to Travel Wire Asia, compared to the same period in 2016, Vietnam’s number of visitors grew by 31.2%, the highest in the region.

As a region, Asia-Pacific welcomed 6% more tourists than last year, with South Asia leading the pack at 14% in growth while the figure was 7%, 6% and 5% for Oceania, Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia, respectively.

Dan Tri elaborated that on a global stage, Vietnam’s growth rate ranked 6th, behind Palestine, Egypt, Northern Mariana Islands, Iceland and Tunisia.

For the first eight months of 2017, 8.47 million international tourists visited the Southeast Asian country, a 29.7% increase compared to last year.
