For the first time in 15 years, Vietnam Airlines has unveiled a set of new uniforms for its pilots and cabin crews.
The Star Trek-esque uniforms will debut on several international flights between March 3 – 9 as part of a trial program in which the airline will collect feedback from passengers and the public, reports Tuoi Tre.
Like the old uniforms that have been used since 1998, the new garb will be based on the traditional ao dai and was designed with input from designers such as Minh Hanh. Flight attendants in business class will don a yellow version while those in economy will were blue.
Interestingly, the uniforms were designed to match the interiors of the airline’s new Airbus A350 and Boeing B787-9 aircraft that provide service between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and Japan, South Korea, Australia, the UK, France, and Germany.
Pilots and male flight attendants will also get some new threads which will sport new materials and cloth patterns.
Beyond aesthetics, a Vietnam Airlines representative said that the uniforms would not easily catch fire (phew) in order to meet aviation safety standards.
Spock would approve.
