In a bid to boost tourism in Cam Ranh, the Vietnamese military has agreed to hand over a beach to their civilian counterparts for tourism development.

Under the agreement, the Navy will cede control of 795 hectares of pristine Bai Dai beach to the Khanh Hoa Province People’s Committee later this month, according to Thanh Nien, citing Tuoi Tre.
It looks like development will kick-off shortly after as a company has already offered to invest in a mixed use tourism complex that would include a golf course targeting international tourists.
Local officials hope that the beach will be able to attract visitors from Nha Trang which is located 40km north of Cam Ranh.
The deep water port has a long military history dating back to the 60s when it was used extensively by the Americans for operations in central Vietnam. It was used as a major operations center for the Soviet Pacific Fleet until 2002.
Portions of the bay are currently being redeveloped by Russian consultants to position it as a naval maintenance and logistics facility for foreign warships.
