Next time you’re in Vung Tau, skip the beach and the giant, outstretched arms of Jesus. Instead, swing by the largest private weapons museum in the country.
Vung Tau resident Robert Taylor’s Worldwide Arms Museum has officially been open since 2012, reports VnExpress. The 70-year-old Brit first applied to make his private arms collection an official museum in 1996. Now open for four years, the museum features approximately 2,500 artifacts, including swords, military uniforms, crossbows and firearms from as long ago as 300 years. British, French, American, Italian, German, Dutch and even some old-school Vietnamese arms are on display, showcasing a variety of weapons from around the world.
Taylor’s passion for collecting began over 50 years ago when, at 18, he purchased a 100-year-old sword. From then on, Taylor traveled the world for work, collecting as he hopped around the globe. When he finally settled in Vung Tau, a town which he now considers his second home, Taylor chose to set up the museum as an effort to contribute to the beach town's tourist attractions.
