Travel videos are a dime a dozen these days, and Vietnam is especially suited to such productions thanks to its diverse geography. As a result, it is hard to stand out from the YouTube crowd, but we’re here to share one such highlight.
Simply called “IN VIETNAM”, this timelapse submitted by user rai vn on July 23 clocks in at just over three minutes long. The video consists of gorgeous tripod timelapse shots focused on large-scale landscapes and city skylines. People are only featured if they happen to be in the background.
Beginning with clouds streaking over the rugged mountains of the far north, viewers are taken on a journey south, eventually reaching the verdant rice paddies of the Mekong Delta.
Along the way, several common favorites are depicted, including Hanoi’s Hoan Kiem Lake, the old town in Hoi An and our own Notre Dame Cathedral here in Saigon. There are several sequences that elevate the video though, most notably the shots of stars shining above the My Son ruins, lightning flashing in the night sky above Nha Trang and fireworks illuminating Da Nang during the annual fireworks competition.
Another strength of the video is the choice of music. While many uploaders use unbearable pop songs to accompany their images, the bulk of IN VIETNAM features a dreamy piano and strings number before drums join in for an epic final montage. If you’re trying to persuade a friend to visit Vietnam, this clip may just convince them to take the plunge.
