[Updated] Scottish Botanist Missing in Sapa's Mountains

[Update Below] On October 30, Scottish Botanist, Jamie Taggart left his Sapa hotel to explore some nearby hills. After failing to show up on his schedule flight back home nearly a month later, his father reported him missing. So far, no clues have been found to help determine his whereabouts.

Rare Snowstorm Hits Sapa

Sapa, which is known to get light dustings of snow from time to time, was hit by a rare snowstorm on December 15 causing a massive 5km traffic jam.

The snow, measuring between 5 – 10cm, blocked the O Quy Ho mountain pass in Sapa on Sunday morning. Snow continued to fall as temperatures dropped throughout the day:

This was the dire prediction from Barney Long, Director of the Species Program at World Wildlife Fund (WWF) when speaking to National Geographic last month. If funding and law enforcement resources are not assigned to protecting elephants, this prophecy may soon come to pass.
