The 5th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF) will take place from October 27-31 and showcase some of Vietnam’s finest filmmaking talent.

The festival, which is themed ‘Cinema: Integration and Sustainable Development,’ aims to highlight and reward films of high artistic value and creative merit, and will feature both films for competition and not for competition.

Works that are part of the competition have been chosen from a worldwide pool and have never been featured before in any international film festivals in Asia, Dan Tri reports.

The screenings of films that are not for competition will help introduce people to up-and-coming Vietnamese filmmakers and animators. Alongside these screenings, there will also be Iranian films that have won awards at Cannes, Berlin and the Oscars.

One of the highlights of the festival will be seminars led by filmmakers from Poland and Iran who, according to Dan Tri, will help Vietnamese artists to gain a broader view of world cinema.

The event will include a script-writing camp and free screenings. Additionally, according to Nhan Dan, outdoor screenings and a fashion show will be held for the first time, too.

Occurring only once every two years, this year’s HANIFF is expected to receive 1,200 delegates, including 200 foreigners. The opening ceremony will be broadcast live on VTV2 on October 27, while the closing ceremony will be aired on VTV1 on October 31.
