The capital will add up to 30 new bus routes next year.
According to VnExpress, Hanoi officials are putting in new bus routes to provide more alternatives for getting around the city.
This is part of an effort to increase the ratio of residents using public transportation to 20–25%. The city is currently struggling to provide adequate transit services for Hanoians: public transportation currently only meets 15.7% of travel demand.
Meanwhile, Hanoi's first metro line blew past a proposed April opening date and still has no estimated timeline for public service, while completion of the second line was recently delayed to December 2022.
The news source reports that the new bus routes will focus on the city's outskirts, along with residential areas, shopping malls and entertainment facilities. They will also connect to stations along the two metro lines, and the existing bus rapid transit (BRT) line.
