This video was filmed on August 14, 1991, a full four years before the country reestablished diplomatic ties with the U.S., informally opening its doors to the West.

The 9-minute clip illustrates how the city has evolved from a relatively quiet, bicycle-filled bastion full of rundown colonial buildings to one of car-chocked streets and modern facades.
