[Video] Vietnam Gets Its Close-Up in Kong: Skull Island Trailer

The folks behind Kong: Skull Island, the Hollywood blockbuster filmed in Vietnam earlier this year, just released the film’s first trailer, and Vietnam plays a starring role in the action.

After months of planning, the Kong: Skull Island cast – which includes Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and Tom Hiddleston – arrived in February to film scenes for the movie in both Ninh Binh province and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National.

Though we’ve seen glimpses of the resulting footage since, this is the first real trailer for the movie, and it does not disappoint.

Set in the American War era, Kong: Skull Island follows a group of explorers to an uncharted island, where they find much more than they bargained for, reports Variety. Threatened by a hostile environment – and, of course, the title character – the adventurers fight to make it off the island alive.

For anyone who’s traveled in Vietnam, the trailer below features several unmistakably Vietnamese landscapes, including sweeping views of Ninh Binh’s rivers and jungle-clad limestone karsts as well as the flurry of birds residing at Van Long Nature Reserve.

Directed by Jordan Charles Vogt-Roberts, Kong: Skull Island will be released in 2017 and is expected to set the stage for a King Kong versus Godzilla flick in 2020.
