Pick a few countries at random and you’re bound to find a number of different concerns shared by their people, from climate change and ISIS to economic instability. According to a recent survey, however, the top concern in Vietnam is unique among the world’s nations.
A Pew Research Center’s global survey conducted last may asked 45,435 people across the globe what they view as the greatest threat in the world.

China concerns may be strongest in Vietnam but are shared by other Asia/Pacific nations as well. According to the survey findings, it is the region’s largest anxiety overall, especially in Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan.
Sino-Viet relations froze over last year when China depolyed an oil rig to a region of the East Sea that Vietnam conciders to be its territorial waters. Despite its removal over a year ago, ties have further frayed due to a spate of Chinese island building that has led to the prospect of American military intervention in the region.
