Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has issued a sweeping plan to overhaul Vietnam’s transportation infrastructure through 2020, covering everything from high-speed rail to airport upgrades reports Vietnam News.
Here are some of the highlights:
- National Highway No1A will be expanded to Can Tho by 2016.
- The North – South Railway will be modernized and will include sections of high-speed railway sections.
- A rail link between the Central Highland provinces and seaports on the central coast.
- Feasibility of a Trans-Asia railway will be studied.
- The government hopes to increase market share for low-fare air carriers.
- Vietnam’s international airports including Noi Bai, Tan Son Nhat, Da Nang, Cam Ranh and Can Tho will receive investments for upgrading.
- A new policy will be enacted to encourage foreign investment in the Long Thanh International Airport project.
- In Vietnam’s cities, public transport will continue to be developed. Personal vehicles in Ha Noi and HCM City will be restricted.
