Not long after breaking ground on its first solar power facility, Quang Tri province is considering another sun-powered clean energy plant.
Last month, AirCraft Company Vietnam-Germany GBR submitted a proposal to provincial officials seeking permission to build a US$200 million solar power plant in the province, reports VietnamNet.
If approved, the 130-hectare plant would be located in Trieu Son and Trieu Trach Communes and could produce up to 100 megawatts of power. The project would be paid for by Germany’s state-owned development bank KfW as well as other European financial firms.
This is not Quang Ngai’s first foray into clean energy: elsewhere in the province, workers broke ground last September on the country’s first-ever solar power plant.
In nearby Ha Tinh, a South Korean firm also put down US$650 million for construction of a solar power plant, while Quang Nam has courted its own series of solar power investors in the last couple years and south-central provinces like Ninh Thuan are in talks to construct their own facilities as well.
These clean energy developments are in line with Vietnam’s national energy plan, which aims to drastically increase the country’s use of wind, water and solar energy by 2030.
