An artist in residency programme, each season San Art Laboratory allows three artists to work and live in their studio for a period of six months. Over the past few years, it has proven to be an important incubator for emerging artists who are offered an environment where creative minds can explore and push the boundaries of contemporary Vietnamese art as well as exchange ideas with foreign artists that have taken part in the residency.
Since its inception, San Art has delivered a series of cultural and artistic programmes like no other organisation in town, from their regular exhibitions to cultural lectures with prominent international figures via workshops and artists’ talks. Among these endeavours, the Laboratory stands as an essential piece of the puzzle within a fragmented and poorly funded art community in Saigon and Vietnam in general. With very few art spaces available and barely any government support, this residency programme is a platform for emerging artists to display their work.
Some of the artists that have been supported through the Laboratory are Ngoc Nau, Nguyen Van Du, Phan Thao Nguyen and most recently Orawan Arunrak, Tran Tuan and Ta Minh Duc.
