During the 2019 Rise Conference in Hong Kong, Tinder CEO Elie Seidman announced that a smaller, faster and stripped-down version of the famous dating app will arrive first in Vietnam, The Jakarta Post reports. According to The Verge, Tinder Lite will be 25 times smaller than the normal version of the app, making it suitable for older operating systems, devices with limited storage, and locales with slow internet connections. The app also uses less battery, and reduces network data usage by 20%.
Tinder's core functions, such as swiping and messaging, will remain intact while complementary features such as the Feed, which lets people access real-time updates from their matches, will be omitted in the lite version. In the coming weeks, Tinder Lite will arrive in Vietnam through the Google Play Store and be available for download on Android devices. After the launch in Vietnam, the app will be released in other Southeast Asian countries and South America.
It's still unclear at the time of writing whether the company has plans to release Tinder Lite on iOS or in other regions beside Southeast Asia and South America.
