[Photos] Viettel's New Offside Studio Is a Fusion of Geometry and Nature

Viettel is one of Vietnam’s largest telecommunication companies. Mentions of its name usually conjure up the vision of a steadfastly traditional conglomerate that’s omnipresent but uninteresting. That’s why the new Viettel Offside Studio, designed by Vo Trong Nghia Architects, is a surprise.

According to the Vo Trong Nghia Architects, the newly minted office block is located at the corner of Viettel Academy’s campus in Thach That District in Hanoi, 30 kilometers from the city center. The academy is a training facility for the company’s engineers while the Offside Studio allows for hosting meetings, brainstorming sessions and also acts as an alternative office for Viettel executives away from the busyness of metropolitan Hanoi.

The compound is made up of six V-shaped buildings — a reception area, a dining space and four studios — connected by an open corridor. The “open books” open onto a tree-filled garden and lake. The walls are concrete while the rest of the interior features contemporary elements: glass, metal and dark wood. The site faces southward, so the architects decided to construct the side walls in order to minimize the harsh sunlight blaring in from the east and west.
