More Vietnamese Are Spending Tet Away From Home, Data Shows

Booking statistics from tour companies in recent years show an interesting trend.

According to the data collected on January 9 by online booking platform Agoda, there is an increase in Vietnamese spending their Tet traveling away from home, Tuoi Tre reports. The stats also show that while in 2017 and 2018, Ho Chi Minh City is the most popular destination during Tet, in 2019, the city's position dropped and was replaced by Bangkok.

More Vietnamese are also spending Tet abroad as more foreign destinations are becoming more popular in 2019, such as Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Other popular destinations among Vietnamese during this year's Tet include Da Lat, Nha Trang, Phan Thiet, Da Nang, Vung Tau and Phu Quoc.

A Viettravel representative also shared that on the first day of Tet last year, the company received approximately 3,300 bookings departing from their branches across the country. This year, bookings for the first three days of Tet are 20000, which makes the total booking count for the holiday 38,000, a 25% increase compared from last year.

According to the news source, in recent years, spring tours are becoming more profitable for tour operators as revenues from these tours account for 30% of the year's profit.
