The news comes amid ongoing speculation regarding the resumption of inbound commercial international flights.

Tuoi Tre reports that, according to a spokesperson from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese government is in negotiations with Japan, South Korea and China to re-open certain flight routes.

Le Thi Thu Hang, the ministry's spokeswoman, shared the latest on this matter in a press briefing yesterday.

"Firstly we'll create favorable conditions for experts and managers from these countries to return to Vietnam for work," she said. "Vietnamese interns and workers will also be able to work in the said countries."

Officials from these nations are working out the safety measures that will need to be taken on both ends of any flight, and Hang further added that preventive measures will be put into place to ensure no further spread of COVID-19.

China, South Korea and Japan are three of Vietnam's largest economic partners, and thousands of Vietnamese nationals also work in them.

There is still no timeline for when any sort of flight agreement may occur, and it is clear that high-level experts and managers are the priority, with no mention of allowing tourists back in yet.

Japan, meanwhile, expects to relax entry restrictions for arrivals from Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand and Thailand in the near future, though the details are being negotiated at the moment.

Vietnam has now gone 63 days without any reported detection of community transmission of the virus, with all recent cases coming from special repatriation flights, and all passengers are quarantined upon arrival.
