After discovering Son Doong, the world’s largest known cave in Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park 5 years ago, a team of researchers has been scouring the area, measuring, charting and photographing 39 new caverns.
The joint team from the British Caving Research Association, Hanoi Natural Sciences University and the park's administrators have made 16expeditions into UNESCO–recognized Phong Nha - Ke, according to Thanh Nien.
The newly discovered caves cover a total length of 17 km, the most notable of which are 1,100mx200m May Dai, the 213 meter high Vuc Moi and the 1,230 meter wide Lan Dai. The team even discovered a long cave stream which begins in neighboring Laos.
Researchers have now cataloged 200 kilometers worth of caves, some of which date back some 400 million years.
Vietnam’s natural beauty continues to impress.
