The scheme, if adopted, would be launched in Da Nang and expanded to other major Vietnamese Cities – Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Saigon and Can Tho - two years later, reports Tuoi Tre.

By the end of 2014, 5here were 45 million vehicles on Vietnam’s streets, 95% of which are motorbikes. The cities listed above represent a third of the nationwide total, according to the VR.

A similar plan to check COemissions in Hanoi and Saigon in 2010 was delayed.

“The VR suggested starting to gauge emissions from motorbikes used for over ten years in Da Nang on July 1, 2018, while motorbikes used for over five years in the city will go through emission checks from July 1, 2019. The checks in the four remaining cities will start on July 1, 2020,” wrote the paper.

After passing emissions checks, vehicles will be granted a stamp showing that they’re street legal.

Vehicles that pass the checks will be granted a stamp and are eligible to be used on streets.

The emissions checks, which will run you between VND100,000 and VND150,000, will be conducted at authorized motorbike dealers, of which there are 1,500 nationwide.
