Thanks to a new regulation from the local People's Committee, beachgoers in Vung Tau are now barred from enjoying a seaside meal.
As of yesterday, the southern beach town's municipal government began enforcing a food and drink ban at local beaches, reports Tuoi Tre. Waterfront vendors are required to relocate their businesses and tourists visiting Vung Tau beaches are discouraged from engaging in “all forms of eating and drinking”, according to the news outlet.
Though some local travel outfits have protested the ban – companies are requesting local authorities wait to enforce the new rule until after the April 30 holiday – head of Vung Tau's economic division Nguyen Ngoc Truong is committed to enacting the ban.
“Those who sell food at the beaches have already been violating two laws, even without the ban, which are sidewalk encroachment and conducting business without a license,” Truong told Tuoi Tre.
The official also pointed out the uptick in littering that has taken place on Vung Tau's beaches recently, attributing some of this pollution to food. Everyday, Truong alleges, trash collectors ply the waterfront digging up old crab shells. Looks like we'll all just have to give up our seaside picnics from now on.
