For foreigners traveling to Vietnam, getting a visa is set to get a bit easier as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Information and Communications have announced a new online visa system, reports VietNamNet.
The new system went live on March 14, allowing foreign visitors to register and fill in visa application forms via http://visa.mofa.gov.vn, instead of getting the forms from “Vietnamese representative agencies.”
In addition, visa-seekers can access visa information and check the status of their application.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has built a database center to support the new systems and increase communication between various government departments.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh expressed his hope that the online visa process will attract more foreigners and businesses to Vietnam while “contributing to promoting people-to-people exchanges and national socio-economic development.”
Victoria Kwakwa, WB Country Director for Vietnam told VietNamNet that the new system should reduce processing time to 2 working days.
