When Irishman, Dan McAllen arrived in Vietnam for a 2-week road trip from Saigon to Hanoi, one of his first orders of business was to buy a motorbike.
During negotiations for his Honda Win, the owner sealed the deal by offering up a duck.
“Obviously, I said yes. So I got Rab and a couple of small bowls to feed him from. He was with us the whole trip and I've got some great memories of him,” said McAllen after completing his cross-country journey.
McAllen and his friends, all from Northern Ireland, brought Rab the duck along not only on their bikes, but also to restaurants and popular tourist destinations.
"My fondest memory is when we took a boat trip through the Phong Nha caves. He was sat at the front of the boat just looking out over the water. Every so often he'd let out a little quack but that was it," said McAllen.
The group, unable to find a new home for Rab after their trip ended, dropped him off in a Hanoi lake on the way to the airport.
Hopefully he hasn’t been eaten yet…
