VICE, the snarky, millenial-focused media outlet, is going global.
The Canadian-American media firm, known for producing edgy news and lifestyle content, recently announced its plans for worldwide expansion, reports Asian Correspondent. In a series of partnerships with well-established media firms abroad, the company aims to set up shop in the Middle East, Africa, India and Southeast Asia.
Already, VICE has inked a deal with the Times of India Group and will open a production hub in Mumbai focused on creating more tailored content for an Indian audience. The media outlet will also launch Viceland, a paid TV service with ambitious expansion goals.
According to Variety, VICE CEO and founder Shane Smith said: “Earlier this year it was widely reported that I announced that we would launch Viceland in 12 countries in 12 months, and that is not true. We will in fact be launching in 44 countries (for those keeping score that’s less than four months in). Making Viceland the fastest-growing television network in history.”
In order to make the Viceland dream a reality, the company will also join forces with Singapore-based firm Multi Channels Asia in order to bring its new, 24-hour TV channel to countries such as Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam.
