With the number of visitors continuing to rise, Vietnam’s largest cities remain magnets for both local and international tourists.
In the first six months of this year, Hanoi welcomed 14.4 million visitors, which includes 3.3 million foreign tourists. This figure is a remarkable 9.5% increase from the same period in 2018, Nhan Dan reports.
According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, revenue from visitors to the capital amounted to over VND50 trillion, a 30% increase from the previous year.
These new figures are no surprise considering Vietnam’s continued efforts to promote tourism. In May this year, following a two-year, US$2 million deal signed in 2017, Hanoi authorities signed a new five-year deal with American media giant CNN worth US$3.4 million.
The move is part of a wider plan to increase tourism in Vietnam, which includes the addition of a new Formula One race in the capital, and the development of horse racing tracks.
In 2018, 26 million people visited Hanoi. Of them, 5.7 million were foreigners, with 60% coming from Asia and 24% from Europe. This year, the city expects to welcome nearly 30 million tourists, of which about 6.66 million will be foreigners.
