BackStories » Thu Thiem Tunnel to Shut Down for 30 Minutes Tomorrow Afternoon

On Friday, drivers heading in to District 1 via the Thu Thiem Tunnel between 2pm and 2:30pm will have to find an alternative route, as the tunnel will be closed for a routine fire drill.

The Management Board of the Thu Thiem Tunnel notified the public around noon yesterday, warning that the tunnel would be closed for 15 minutes on Wednesday afternoon and a half hour on Friday afternoon, reports Zing.

It turns out the closure is due to a fire drill, which officials are carrying out in order to improve the professional qualifications of local firefighters and search-and-rescue personnel.

Wednesday's closure was a dress rehearsal for the main event, which will take place on Friday and test how well local firefighters and rescue services would be able to handle a hypothetical blaze in the tunnel.
