Japanese National Killed at Ben Thanh Bus Station

In what seems to be a worrying trend, another foreigner has died in Saigon, this time a Japanese lecturer on her way home from school. The 50-year-old victim was a teacher of Oriental Studies at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities.

Around 3:30 yesterday afternoon, she got off a bus at the Ben Thanh Bus Station on Pham Ngu Lao Street, near the Quach Thi Trang Roundabout in District 1 on the way to her home in District 7.

Suffering from bone degeneration, she relied on the help of her students to help her get on the bus, one of which was with her at the time.

In a terrible stroke of luck, she fell while crossing the street and was run over by a bus, killing her instantly.

Police are investigating the accident.

Be careful out there, Saigoneers...
