Ancient houses, beautiful beaches, great restaurants and plenty of places to take long strolls have given Hội An a reputation for being one of Vietnam’s most charming destinations. But when these pictures were shot in 1990, the town was just starting its evolution into a tourist hot spot.
After being overshadowed by Đà Nẵng as the region’s economic hub, the majesty of this former international trading post had faded to the point where many of the important cultural features we see today were revived to take advantage of nostalgic travelers. What you see today is a restoration of the town’s 17th century character.
