Vietnam's Representative Wins Mrs. Universe 2017

A Vietnamese-American woman was recently crowned Mrs. Universe 2017, making it the first time a Vietnamese participant has ever achieved the title in such a pageant.

Tuoi Tre reports that on September 3, Luu Hoang Tram was announced the winner of Mrs. Universe 2017 in South Africa, beating 80 other competitors from all over the world. ERM Vietnam, the local correspondent of Mrs. Universe, nominated Tram as Vietnam’s representative for the pageant.

“Despite being a mother of two, Luu Hoang Tram has been able to maintain breathtaking beauty, which takes a lot of effort and dedication,” Director of ERM Vietnam Nguyen Thi Thanh told the newspaper.

Tram, however, is no stranger to beauty pageants, as she also won the Mrs. Asia and Mrs. World Peace 2017. She currently lives in the US, having migrated to the country when she was a little girl. She owns a beauty care chain in Houston, Texas.

Contestants in this year’s Mrs. Universe had to partake in three rounds: traditional dress, ethnic dress and evening gown. Tram’s ethnic costume, weighing 20 kilograms, was inspired by rice. The outfit was deemed one of the top three most beautiful of the night.
