World Expo 2015, an international event that embraces technology, innovation, culture, traditions and creativity will be held in Milan, Italy next year and renowned Võ Trọng Nghĩa Architects will represent Vietnam with works that resemble a lotus flower.
The expo will take place from May 1 - October 31, 2015 with the theme resolution for Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.
Inspired by lotus flowers, the design is a set of bamboo-covered, tree-roofed cone-like structures above a pool of water, representing the pink blossoms' pure and optimistic meaning in Vietnamese culture.
Võ Trọng Nghĩa also took the opportunity to use the structure as a metaphor for sustainability – no part of the flower goes to waste. Matching the theme of the event, the design makes extensive use of bamboo – a recyclable, low-carbon material that can even be reused after the building is disassembled.
