The first phase of the line will begin with an office building and support facilities at Tham Luong Depot. The 8-story structure will be built over the next 480 days at a cost of VND173 billion ($US8.1 million), reports Nhan Dan.
Bui Xuan Cuong, head of the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board (URMB), said that the 12km metro line, which will travel through districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh and Tan Phu, is comprised of 10 underground stations and 1 above ground station, serving 80,000 passengers per hour.
The project’s total cost is estimated at VND26.1 trillion (US$1.4 billion), with funds coming from the local government, the Asian Development Bank and The German Bank for Reconstruction. It is scheduled to open in 2020, the same year as the city’s first metro line.
Hopefully, the URMB has learned from the costly delays that have plagued the development of the Suoi Tien – Ben Thanh Line in order to complete the project on time.
