Last month, local firms An Gia Investment and Phat Dat Real Estate Development Joint Stock Company joined forces with Japan's Creed Group to introduce one of the city's most ambitious luxury residence projects to date.
With a total investment of US$500 million so far, RiverCity's grand, elliptical-shaped structure will rise and fall, ranging from 12 to 37 stories high, according to the complex's website, and include 4,800 residential units. The structure will sit between the Phu My area and District 2's Thu Thiem neighborhood.
But of course the embellishments don't stop there: in addition to your typical housing units, RiverCity also aims to incorporate an elevated walking street including flower gardens, a two-story swimming pool with a waterfall, an open square with water and light features – not unlike Nguyen Hue – and an artificial island. These flashy add-ons will take up the interior courtyard of the complex.
According to the developers, inspiration for these features came from several sources: Dubai's World Islands – an artificial archipelago of islands in the shape of a world map – motivated the team to build Vietnam's first artificial island, while New York City's High Line influenced the design of RiverCity's flower-lined elevated walkway.
All told, the project is expected to span over 112,000 square meters and provide its residents with clear waterfront views on three sides. Developers say the residential units will be complete and handed over to homeowners in 2019.
