According to Vietnam News, Saigon’s Department of Traffic and Transportation has asked the city’s People’s Committee permission to conduct an investment survey for Thu Thiem Bridge 4. Thought a location has yet to be announced, based on renderings of the urban area and current street plans, it's possible that it will connect the end of District 2's Tran Nao Street to Huynh Tan Phat in District 7.
Under the Thu Thiem master plan, five bridges and a tunnel will serve as conduits to the peninsula, connecting it to Districts 1, District 4, District 7 and Binh Thanh District.
The Thu Thiem Bridge 1 and Thu Thiem Tunnel that span the Saigon River have been operational since 2010 and 2011, respectively.
Construction of the 1.5km, US$150 million Thu Thiem Bridge 2 began earlier this year and is scheduled to open in 2018.
The infrastructure will help facilitate the construction of large developments in the urban area, including the recently announced Thu Thiem Empire City and Eco-Smart City.
