Yesterday afternoon, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee held a ceremony to announce the Thu Thiem Empire City development, the crown jewel of the city’s new urban area.

The 14.5 hectare complex will be located just across from downtown Saigon and feature a high-end shopping mall, a 5-star hotel, offices, serviced apartments, an underground parking garage and an 86-story skyscraper, one of the tallest buildings in SE Asia and the most prominent structure in the massive Thu Thiem Urban Area, reports REIC.

Construction of the US$2.2 billion project will begin this year and is a joint venture between JSC Property Tien Phuoc, Ltd. Tran Thai Properties, Denver Power Ltd (UK) and GAW Capital Partners.

The Thu Thiem peninsula is being built in sections by different developers, that include, among other projects, a US$2 billion eco smart city, the Thu Thiem Financial Center, the Dai Quang Minh eco complex and a US$87 million, 28 hectare park.
