There may have been a mixture of complexions and languages, but the crowd at The Saigon Projects 5 year anniversary party shared one love for the growth of graffiti art and underground hiphop in Vietnam.
The party went down on Friday May 9 at the C.U House, hidden away in a District 3 alley.
Photographs of the crew’s works and members who hail from Nha Trang were hung on ropes along the walls of entrance showing just how creative and free-spirited these guys are – just like the hiphop culture they embrace.
Lacking some of the culture’s grittier characteristics, the crowd was neat but no less exciting. Young rappers freestyled and received a hearty round of applause. Some even cheered with a splash into the adjacent pool. The familiar smell of paint fumes filled the air, as graffiti artists used a blank wall as a canvas.
Dope beats! Fun crowd!
The Saigon Projects has been making street art projects and pictures, which tell stories about Saigon and its inhabitants, since it launched in 2009 with the goal of bringing graffiti to the common people.
Unlike other spontaneously-formed graffiti groups, The Saigon Projects has a clearly defined set of concepts and goals, which are not limited to graffiti, but other social activities as well.
We hope the group will continue their journey of artistic expression.
