Crew Feared Dead After Military Helicopter Crashes In HCMC

[Update Below] A military helicopter crashed in HCMC’s Bình Chánh District this morning after departing from Tân Sơn Nhất International Airport and its four crew members are feared dead.

According to Tuoi Tre, a military official confirmed that the Bell UH-1 Iroquois crashed in Phạm Văn Hai Commune around 8am with four pilots onboard, adding that rescuers at their scene have yet to determine their fate.

The chopper was on its way to Tây Ninh Province, 100km from HCMC when it lost contact with air traffic controllers while over the skies of Củ Chi District.

“Eight minutes after takeoff, we lost contact with the aircrew,” a source told Tuoi Tre.

In a similar incident, 16 died in a military helicopter crash outside of Hanoi last July.

Update:
